A significant meeting in Prespa

On 17-18 January 2004, the General Assembly of the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) met in the village of Aghios Germanos , in the Greek part of the Prespa Lakes region. The General Assembly consists of representatives of seven Greek and three other European NGOs, and has been chaired for its first 13 years by Dr. Luc Hoffmann .

During the meeting, a proposal for the incorporation of cultural values in the work of SPP was presented by archaeologist Aphrodite Sorotou , head of the Scientific Secretariat of Med-INA. The proposal, which is in accordance with Ramsar Resolution VIII.19, included the establishment of the Prespa Centre for Nature and Anthropos. It was received with very positive remarks by the participants in the meeting.

On the basis of this proposal, a number of activities will be launched, while a detailed programme will be reviewed by the SPP General Assembly in late May 2004.
