Visit to Prespa (28 September - 2 October 2003)

Med-INA is collaborating closely with the Society for the Protection of Prespa and the Friends of Prespa, two Greek NGOs concerned with the conservation of the Prespa Lakes region, shared by Albania, Greece and the FYR of Macedonia. The aim is to establish in the Aghios Germanos village a Prespa Centre for Nature and Anthropos, which will promote on the integrated approach to the cultural and natural heritage of the area, and will provide a focus for its documentation.

Thus on 28 September to 2 October, Thymio Papayannis and Aphrodite Sorotou were on a mission in the Prespa area, working with Myrsini Malacou, the director of SPP, as well as with Ritsa Patsea and Fotini Vakitsidou , to place this collaboration on a concrete basis and to start the process of data collection and digitalisation. For Med-INA, the Prespa area is the first pilot case for the implementation of Ramsar Resolution VIII.19 that concerns cultural values of wetlands in the context of the management of wetland sites.
