04.05.2018 | MedINA to organise a training workshop on heritage interpretation on the island of Kythera
MedINA will organise a three-day training workshop on heritage interpretation on the island of Kythera from 11 to 13 May 2018 in the premises of the Patrikia School of Karavas. The training will be delivered by the Head of Training at Interpet Europe - the European Association for Heritage Interpretation, Valya Stergioti and is addressed primarily to professional or aspiring outdoor guides and educators as well as other interested individuals.

The training workshop is taking place in the framework of MedINA’s INCREAte Programme and specifically its Kythera component which focuses on upgrading the network of hiking trails of the island. This project is carried out in cooperation with the Municipality of Kythera, the Domestic Property Committee of Kythera and Antikythera and the Kytherian Foundation for Culture and Development.

The aim of the workshop, which is provided free of charge to a limited number of participants, is to build the capacity of the local community in heritage interpretation as a tool that combines the promotion of local natural and cultural heritage with economic development. During the three days of the workshop, participants will learn about the principles of heritage interpretation and how to design an outdoor interpretation tour both in theory and through a practical exercise. By the end of the training, the participants will have the skills to organize, prepare and/or implement guided interpretation tours on the natural and cultural heritage of the island and its trails’ network.
